CHI SIAMO

Fighting these chilly winter days with some warm a Fighting these chilly winter days with some warm and beautiful memories from last summer. ☀️ We would be lying if we said we didn’t miss the feeling of being in the middle of the sea, all alone, surrounded by the crystal-clear turquoise water and stunning scenery. 🌊🐙🌿 Can we restart summer please?

Reality Check. Starting 2021 in a Right Way! Swip Reality Check. Starting 2021 in a Right Way!

Swipe right to see the Before & After 👉🏻

On Monday we went to Crapolla to do a beach clean-up. Upon arrival, we were shocked how much trash was washed out on such a small beach. Most of it was plastic, so much of it, as well as an enormous amount of polystyrene. Looking closer into the sand we could also find many tiny pieces of plastic, that most of the time are hard to spot and collect 👁 Honestly, this was upsetting. However, our team made a great job and a small but significant difference (as you can see in the pictures). We also tried to recycle rubbish straight away while collecting and putting it into appropriate bags. The next day, half of our team returned to Crapolla by boat to collect them!

Every single time, the harsh reminder of reality kicks in. Every place we’ve been, everywhere we’ve swam - full of plastic. Let’s make a collective effort every time we visit any natural place to leave it better than before. Our nature needs help more than ever, and it is our responsibility to try to make it a better place.

Remember, that if there is no blue, there is no green 🌍 Have a wonderful weekend!

As you might know, Project M.A.R.E. is responsible As you might know, Project M.A.R.E. is responsible for monitoring the MPA - Ieranto Bay. Each year, our volunteers take action to monitor the bay, its species and changes that might appear due to climate change or any other cause. Registering the observations from various underwater surveys helps us to manage what is happening in Ieranto and take appropriate actions 🤿📝🦀

Asparagopsis taxiformis A red invasive macroalga Asparagopsis taxiformis A red invasive macroalga in the Mediterranean sea

Interesting fact❕: As you probably know, cattle are a major contributor to the greenhouse gas emissions. It was recently discovered that Asparagopsis can contribute to reduction in methane production from cows by 90%. In 2021 farmers are planning to turn this red seaweed into a feed supplement for them, and in this way, reduce the carbon impact in the atmosphere and tackle climate change! 🌍 Good things are coming! 🙏🏻

The information was taken from the article ‘Methane-busting seaweed farms on track for 2021 production’ on indaily.com 📄

In a World of its Own 🪐 Magnificent Blennie Sp In a World of its Own 🪐

Magnificent Blennie Sphinx (Aidablennius sphynx) female species. It is always surprising how biodiverse and alien-like our underwater world is. Forever in love with the sea! 🤍

Some facts about this species from family Blenniidae 💡 The size is ranging from as little as 6-7 cm, found at 0-1 m depth, and preferred habitat are algae covered shallow rocky areas full of sunlight. It is very common and widespread in the Mediterranean sea, just need to have a closer look 👀🔍 Notice also small whisker-like structures above the eyes? Those are called cirri, and they are used to detect potential predators by feeling the pressure from the waves 🌊
